Today I’m talking about an all-around life hack for creating better relationships.

And, it’s so easy. This week’s video was filmed in 2 minutes and features one of my favorite segments, “Just 60 Seconds.”

I call this communication hack “Shaking out the rug.”

What does that mean?

It’s about having maintenance conversations.

Every relationship in the world, whether it's a romantic relationship, a work relationship, personal relationship, team relationships, needs ongoing nurturing and healthy communication. A great way to do this is to have check-in, maintenance conversations on a semi-regular basis

Some great questions to frame up that conversation are:

How am I doing?
How are things overall?
Are there ways that I can show up better?
What would a 10/10 look like from me?
Do we have any challenges or anything that we need to bring up and talk about?

It’s really important when we normalize those types of conversations inside our relationships.

This visual of shaking out a rug is great because a rug is something that everyone uses and walks on regularly, but rarely pay much attention to while it’s collecting dirt and doing its job. Every once in a while you need to pick it up, shake out the dirt, and make sure you’re keeping it clean.

It's really important to normalize those types of conversations inside our relationships, and have them on an ongoing basis. Doing this helps prevent unnecessary conflict, unnecessary resentment, and things being left unsaid. And do it whether it feels really necessary or not; be intentional and proactively initiate those conversations and make them happen.

Be intentional and proactively initiate those conversations and make them happen.

That’s it, go be awesome.
